US visa photo requirements

When applying for USA visa online you will be requested to upload your digital photo. Follow the below US visa digital photo requirements to make sure your photo will be accepted.

Dimensions: The photo must in square aspect ration with both height and width equal to each other. The photo must be at least 600 x 600 pixels and 1200 x 1200 pixels maximum.
Color: The image must be in color (24 bits per pixel) in sRGB color space. This is the common output of all digital cameras.
File Format: The photo must be in JPEG format.
File Size:The photo must be 240 kB (kilobytes) or less.
Compression: If you had to compress the photo to meet the size requirement, The compression ratio should be less than or equal to 20:1.

If you are unable to upload your photo you could skip the upload however you must bring a paper photo to your US visa appointment. The printed photo must meet the below guidelines.

The photo must be in full true colors. The background must be plain white or off-white.
The photo should be 51mm x 51mm. The head size must be between 50% and 69% of the photo size which translates into 22mm and 35mm.
The photo must be recently taken in the last 6 months and reflects your current appearance.
The photo must be in frontal view and looking straight into the camera.
Your eyes must be open and your face is in neutral expression.
It's not allowed to wear uniforms unless it's religious closing that you wear daily.
Your full face must be visible, don't wear any head coverings unless for religious reasons and you wear it every day. The cover mustn't reflect any shadows on your face.
No devices are allowed in your photo such as headphones or hands-free.
No eyeglasses are allowed, unless in vert rare cases where it can't be removed for medical reasons. In that case the eyeglasses frame mustn't cover the eyes. The must not be any reflections or shadows that cover the eyes.
Those who wear hearing devices or similar articles may wear it in the photo.
Children photo: No other person can be in the photo, the child must look into the camera with open eyes. For new born it's acceptable the eyes to be slightly closed.
