US Visa and Immigration Procedure
USA, the land of freedom and place of dreams and aspirations for the whole world. The very concept of the American Dream revolves around equal opportunity, prosperity, and success for all its citizens. The phenomenon attracted many aspirants during the era of 1880-1920's. Today, the country stands as the singular superpower of the world in a variety of terms with its supremacy unmatched in multiple domains.
Just as in the past, there are still many who wish to migrate to the United States and start their life anew. The only problem is that the immigration policy of United States has been made quite strict due to the current geo-political affairs and their increasing concerns for filtering refugees. But fret not dear reader, for we will be breaking down the entire procedure rather smoothly. Here's a step by step guide which will define the current standard procedure put in place by the US immigration department.
First and foremost a petition needs to be filed. It can either be filed by a sponsor from inside the US by filing form I-130 for Alien Relative or outside (limited types only). More information for outside visaa pplicant can be found here.
If your petition is approved, your case will be forwarded to the NVC (National Visa Center) department. You can then create your case in the CEAC system with email invitation. Fulfill all the requirements there and proceed to the next step.
The first thing you will be paying after receiving NVC invitation will be the Immigration Visa Application Processing Fee and Affidavit of Support (form I-864) Fee. Be sure to fill in the form for Affidavit carefully.
The next step is collecting the financial evidence and supporting documents.
After the submission of fees and documents, your status on the CEAC will be updated to PAID. Now, you must complete the visa Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration (Form DS-260).
After completing DS-260S, collect and scan all your civil documents. Have certified translation (to English) attached in case they are in another language. The documents must be original and issued by the issuing authority of the country. This includes documents like birth/adaption certificate, marriage/divorce certificates, court/prison/military records, petition documents, and valid Passport Biographic data page.
Scan all the files, compress them below 2MB and have them in color instead of black and white and upload them. be sure to include both sides.
After the submission and approval of documents, you will be invited for an interview. Make these preparations before you show up for the visa interview. Set up and undergo a medical exam, register for a courier service, gather documents required for interview, have your Public Charge Questionnaire DS5540 prepared, as you may be asked to present it along with supporting evidence at the time of interview.
The final step for this series is the visa interview. This automatically translates to every requirement meeting the passing criteria and approval of the case. At the time of interview, you must have your passport, visa appointment letter, photographs, DS-260 confirmation page and all the supporting documents.
After that, there is only waiting for approval from the consular office. After which your US Visa will be approved and you can travel to the United States after acquiring a ticket.
